THE FUTURE OF US EXHIBITION
March 05, 2016
After we checked in at The InnCrowd Backpacker Hostel, we went to The Future of Us Exhibition. The exhibition was located beside the Gardens by the Bay. We booked the tickets before we went to Singapore. The experience was plainly amazing! Next time when you before you visit a country, do check out the events on their tourism website. This was truly a golden opportunity for us to know how the Singaporeans envision to work, live, learn and care in the future.
This exhibition takes visitors on a sensory journey into the many possibilities that could transform the way Singaporeans work, live, learn, and care.
The journeys began with The Thread of Us, The Future Express, Theatre of Generations, Home Tomorrow, Symphony of the City, Blue Skies and The Lion play spaces, and The Marketplace.
1.The Future Express
In the year of 2030, Singapore will celebrate SG65. Thus The Future Express imagines the newspaper of the day looking back at 1965 and 2015, and projects the possible headlines in 2030.
2.Theatre of Generations
We entered into an area to watch a short film. Firstly, we watched a historical footage of the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Then the film showed how the Singaporeans wanted to unfold their dreams and challenges.
3. Home Tomorrow
I love all these Samsung Smart Home ideas. Better security at home, using your phone to make payment instead of using cards, hand gestures to switch on and off all the electric appliances in the house. Besides that, I loved the electrical mirror the most. While you are watching yourself greeting dress on the mirror, you can watch youtube, read news and weather forecast on it too. Shut up and take my money! ^.^
4. Symphony of the City
We also watched a show in another area. The show was about the idea of Smart Homes and Vibrant Lifestyles, and The Sky is The Limit.
Firstly, the Smart Homes and Vibrant Lifestyle was about how they take care of their citizens especially the disabled citizens. They really showed that what kind of neighborhoods that they wanted to build and the amenities they wanted to provide for the less fortunate.
Then the story proceeded to The Sky is The Limit. It was very interesting to know that they wanted to grow plants and vegetables on "the sky". As we all know, Singapore is a land scarce country. It is difficult for them to grow crops because their land is limited. The idea of growing plants and vegetables on "the sky" is really brilliant. So, they do not need to import food from other countries if they are able to grow crops. They also projected the idea of Move at Your Own Space. Starting from the underground through the expanded mass rapid transit (MRT) network to future buses, vacuum-tube high-speed rail, self-driving vehicles, electric charging lanes and vehicle sharing systems. All these sounded so well-planned! Imagine what Singapore could be in the future. When I watched these show, I was thinking about the future of my country too...:(
5. Blue Skies and The Lion Play Spaces
This was where we pen down our dreams and aspirations for the future of Singapore. Then we watched the wishes as they were beamed into the sky. We were excited to see our wishes join the constellation of "stars" in the digital galaxy. We could also discover the dreams of others using the Dream Searchers. I really like their exhibition because it is very interactive!
6. The Marketplace
This was the place where we could view many interesting products such as T-shirts, notebooks and tote bags. The products that were sold there mostly had the logo SG50. The designs are very attractive but we didn't buy anything. It was very expensive because of the conversion rate. :(
Most importantly, free admission to the exhibition! We also intended to visit the newly opened Singapore National Gallery but we didn't have time for it.
